Celebrating Ourselves on Girls Day

Hinamatsuri or Girls Day is celebrated in Japan on March 3rd every year.

This is the day that families pray for the happiness and prosperity of their girls.

At our March Pages Circle  workshop we celebrated being girls by creating origami dolls that honored the beauty that lies within us.

Hinamatsuri omedetou (Happy Girl’s Day)!

Here is some of what our amazing group of girls created:

Gratitude Grows on Trees! Our November Gratitude Circle Workshop

Pages of My Life just kicked off our Gratitude Circle Workshop for kids this past week. In these monthly creative journaling workshops, we focus on the idea of growing a community of gratitude, page by page, through journal writing and creative art projects.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we focused on celebrating thankfulness by each creating our very own gratitude tree. The kids all took their trees home to share with family and friends to keep the gratitude tree growing in their homes.

Here are some highlights from the workshop and the wonderful work that was created by the kids.

Friendship

I have been infused with  a renewed joy for those in my life I call my friends

I see that my friendships cannot be hurried or forced in being

There is a natural growth that needs time to take root…

With quiet words that unfold and then spill open

My friendships flow through my veins

And pass through the center of my life.

They are essential to the core of my being.

UBUNTU

An anthropologist proposed a game to African tribe kids.

He put a basket full of fruit near a tree and told them that whoever got there first won the sweet fruits.

When he told them to run they all took each others hands and ran together, then sat together enjoying their treats.

When he asked them why they had run like that as one could have had all the fruits for himself they said: UBUNTU, how can one of us be happy if all the other ones are sad?

UBUNTU in the Xhosa culture means: “I am because we are”

Being Seen

I think that all living things

Just want to be seen..

Just look at these tiny beautiful flowers

Growing amongst hardy shrub in desert country..

They push out amid their harsh environment

And with their gentle yet persistent spirit

They call out for attention

See me! Look at me!

They say

And I do………

Chaos, NYC

This might be one of my favorite new finds in New York City.

To me, this store is a wonderful ode to the city it is housed within.

Chaos – what an ideal name

This gorgeous store created by Patricia Grace Stevens &  Elena Agostinis Patterson captures the energy, the bustling creativity and the color of the city.

Each of the vibrant little artistic pieces fit in perfectly together creating a masterpiece store in a one of a kind city.

Pages In India : Part 2

We would like to say a big “THANK YOU” to all those who attended and showed their support for The Pages of My Life’s two journaling workshops in Chennai, India.

They were a smashing success.

In addition to the lil’ girls workshop for ages 4-6 years old that we highlighted in our blog last week, we also hosted an older girls workshop for ages 7-12 years old.

In this workshop we talked about opening our eyes to all the gratitude already present in our lives.

The girls enjoyed decorating their gratitude rock and writing and expressing themselves in their new journals.

Here’s a look:

Pages In India!

Pages of My Life was delighted to introduce two journaling workshops in India over the summer – one for younger girls and one for older girls.

The first workshop we held was for lil’ girls ages 4-6 years old.

It was a great group of girls and together we reflected about all that we had in our lives to be thankful for.

We also had fun learning the “thank you ” song and journaling in our new journals for the first time!

Here’s a peek from the lil’ girls workshop:

One for One

My daughters and I love TOMS shoes.

They’re comfy, casual and feel so good to wear.
They feel so good…

because

For every pair you buy,

Toms gives a new pair to child in need.

We get excited about companies that are socially responsible and give back.
They get it.
They get that it’s not just about the bottom line.
It never is..We are all connected.

We need each other…
not only to survive.
But to
THRIVE!

Hope!

This is what we chanced upon on a Saturday afternoon right by the High Line in New York City.

A little shrine to “Hope”!

I loved the simplicity of the idea and yet the power of its message.

There is always hope……..

Rainbows

Double rainbows in the sky…

What an unbelievable sight to see

Twice in one week….

Right here in New York City!

Did you get to see it?

Zumba!!!!

I have a new addiction!

It involves a whole lot of booty shaking and there’s no vodka involved!!

Welcome to the world of Zumba….

Christina La Grega is an unbelievable dancer and her Zumba classes are packed with passion and energy.

Christina has the ability not only to awaken your sense of fun but she also inspires community coming together and giving to charities such as St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital.

A HUGE shout out to my friend Peggy for hauling my ass over to Zumba every single week…

Thanks to her…every Tuesday evening I go dancing with my girlfriends!!!!

Here are some pictures from a fundraiser that Christina organized where we Zumba’d at Fort Totten Park overlooking the Throgs Neck Bridge.

Crazy Sexy Life Omega NYC Retreat with Kris Carr and Nick Ortner

Here is our final installment about the soul – stirring Omega weekend we attended in April.

Lastly, we highlight the workshop we attended with the ever -inspiring Kris Carr and Nick Ortner.

As Omega states, Kris Carr is the founder of the award-winning website Crazysexylife.com. Kris is also a motivational speaker, wellness coach, and author of the Crazy Sexy Cancer book series, including Crazy Sexy Diet. She is also the subject of the inspirational documentary, Crazy Sexy Cancer, which she wrote and directed for TLC to chronicle her four-year journey healthfully living with stage-four cancer.

Nick Ortner is creator of The Tapping Solution, a documentary film about Emotional Freedom Techniques, also called EFT, which combine ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology.

Together Kris and Nick led a workshop that focused on creating and sustaining a vibrant physical , emotional and spiritual life.

Here’s what I took away:

The first step to optimal health  is  awareness. We have to be aware of what goes into our body – what we eat, drink and think. Yes, what we think too!

All three have a great impact on our health and on our energy level.

Kris emphasized how we have to be our own mother and to never abandon ourselves.

She spoke about the importance of feeling safe, protected and loved in our own body.

Just as a mother has unconditional love for her child, we have to treat ourselves that way with doses of self-love and nourishment.

Perfection is not the key for it only leads to stagnation.

When we feel out of balance – always go back to the basics, with the original medicine we have around us – water, more plant -based foods (Kris is a huge advocate of juicing and smoothies) and spending time in nature.

This is always the foundation for restoring our balance.

Nick Ortner taught us how to use the Emotional Freedom Techniques to treat the physical and emotional blocks that affect our health and well being.

EFT is is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture.

EFT uses simple tapping with your fingertips on specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem – whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc.

Nick called on volunteers to come on stage while he worked with them with tapping techniques to ease their physical and emotional pain.

It was amazing to witness the instant relief that took place.

We tried it on ourselves too. And I can say it really does work. And it is so so easy to do.

I highly recommend it!
